Candidates of Municipal Councils can file no dues affidavits

Chandigarh, June 12 (UNI) The Punjab State Election Commission has allowed candidates for the Municipal Council or Nagar Panchayat polls to file affidavits stating that they do not owe any money to the local bodies.

According to a press release issued by the Commission here today candidates can file an affidavit in lieu of 'No Objection Certificate' from the Municipal Council in respect of not being defaulters for non payment of dues.

In case a candidate cannot obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' or No Due Certificate, then he or she can file an affidavit stating that no outstanding amount payable to the Council is standing against his or her name.

The Returning Officer will accept such nomination papers and forward the affidavit to the concerned Municipal Council with a direction to send a report within 24 hours, failing which it will be presumed that he or she is not a defaulter.
