708 villages in NE electrified
Shillong, June 12 (UNI) As per the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme of the Union Renewable Energy Ministry, about 708 villages in the entire North Eastern region have so far been electrified.
According to official sources, about 25 villages in Meghalaya have been electrified and 72 projects were under implementation in the state.
The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has listed 2710 villages in the North East where connectivity was neither feasible nor cost effective.
An amount of Rs 48.3 crore has been allotted as ten per cent of the gross budgetary support for the North East during 2007-08 under the various renewable energy programmes of the ministry, sources stated.
