London, June 11 : A woman dressed in a bumblebee costume gave birth to a 14-week premature baby during the hen party for her friend's forthcoming marriage, even though she was herself unaware of her pregnancy.
Thirty-year-old Ally Ashwell began to feel unwell while the party was going on in Blackpool.
Since she did not want the party to be spoilt, Ashwell returned to her hotel room on her own.
Just a few minutes later, she delivered a 14 weeks premature baby boy, whom she named Owen.
Ashwell, a human resources officer who lives in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, dialled 999 soon after her baby was born.
At the time of his birth, Owen weighed just 2lb.
Upon their arrival, the paramedics immediately took both mother and son to the intensive care unit of Blackpool's Victoria Hospital.
They had warned Ashwell that her son might not survive.
However, Owen survived the crucial first few days, and is now making good progress, say medical staff.
"He was tiny. Instinct must have taken over, as I think I was quite calm. I wrapped him up and tried to keep him warm," the Telegraph quoted Ashwell, who lives with her partner Alan Warneford, as saying.
"The paramedics came and they said they had to take him straight to hospital or he wouldn't make it. Everything after that is a bit of a blank," she added.
A spokesman for the Blackpool Victoria Hospital said: "It is very unusual for a baby to be born in this situation."
