Kathmandu, June 11 : The Nepal Government has said that the move by transport entrepreneurs to unilaterally raise the fares was not acceptable to it.

The Government has asked the commuters not to pay the increased charges as the fares were increased without first seeking government approval.

Nepalnews quoted Uddhav Baskota, spokesperson at the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management as saying that the transport entrepreneurs have raised the fares unilaterally and it won't be acceptable to the government.

Baskota asked commuters not to be pressured towards paying the increased charges and said that the committee formed by the government to adjust the transport fares would soon hold discussion with transport entrepreneurs and fix the new fares.

Citing hike in prices of petroleum products and soaring cost of vehicles and their spare parts, the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNTTE) had on Tuesday decided to increase the charges by 30 to 40 per cent depending on the distance.
