Shillong, June 11 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today demanded resignation of Assam Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi following the disappearance of a political leader in his constituency.
Prasanta and Kamai Turung had gone missing on April 9 last year.
Prasanta was an NCP candidate in the 2006 Assembly polls.He had contested all the Assembly and Parliamentary elections from Margherita constituency since 1990.
'' We want the CBI to probe into the missing of our party worker and his wife, but on a condition that Pradyut Bordoloi should quit the ministry for an impartial probe,'' NCP President (Assam unit) DD Adhikari told reporters here.
Yesterday, Mr Bordoloi had defended his stand regarding the disappearance of the Turung couple and said, ''I have nothing to do with the disappearance of the Turung couple from Margherita and have requested Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to pursue the CBI to take up the investigation.'' The Minister claimed that the Chief Minister had assured him of asking the central investigation bureau to take up the probe.
Mr Adhikari also expressed surprised over his '' new-found concern'' for the Tarung's, months after their disapperance.
