Lucknow, Jun 11: In an effort to attract excursionists from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh tourism department today started a tourist information office here today. Tourism officials of both states also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for exchaning tourists. This will be the seventh information centre of the MP tourism out of its state.
Addressing a press conference here, MP State Tourism Development Corporation managing director Ashwani Lohani said here that MP had a diversity of tourist places in the heart of the country. ''It is one of the country's most unique states, where within every 10 kilometer of radius lies a heritage site,'' he claimed.
Mr Lohani said when railway would be connected to Khajuraho by October, tourist flow would also be on the upswing. Claiming that MP has the distinction of wooing the highest foreign trippers in the country, he said this year, the national award for tourism was given to ''our state''.
The MP tourism department official narrating in detail about the locations of tourist places in his state, maintained it was one of the states in India, where the government ensured full safety to globe-trotters.
Later, Joint Managing director, UP Tourism, Vikram Singh assured his MP counterparts that the state would provide all assistance to attract holiday-makers to MP.
The MP information office is being set up at the state tourism headquarters and would be fully operational in the next two months.
