Engine catches fire, train services hit
Tiruchirapalli, Jun 11 (UNI) Train services on the Tiruchirapalli-Vridhachalam broad gauge section were badly hit as a train engine caught fire at Vanchithan Odai between Ariyalur and Sillukudi stations, near here, today.
Railway sources said the engine was proceeding to Tiruchirapalli from Ariyalur when the driver noticed heavy smoke emanating from the engine. The driver informed the matter to the Ariyalur Station Manager.
Fire brigades from Vridhachalam and Ariyalur rushed to the spot and put out the fire. The engine was badly damaged.
Railway authorities regulated the Tiruchirapalli-Cuddalore Port Passenger at Sillukdi station and the Villupuram-Tiruchirapalli Passenger at Ottakovil station.
Efforts were on to clear the track, the sources added.
