30 BJP workers injured in police action in Tripura
Agartala, Jun 11 (UNI) At least 30 BJP workers, including some women, were injured when the Tripura Police baton-charged a protest rally in front of the state Assembly, party leaders today alleged.
According to them, police lathicharged the protestors who organised a rally yesterday against the hike in fuel prices.
Meanwhile, police said slogan shouting agitators tried to enter the Assembly premises.
The BJP workers were protesting the ''double standard'' of the Left parties, on whose support the Congress led UPA government thrives at the Centre.
The protestors took out a rally with pictures of cooking gas cylinders and went through the streets of the city. Later, as they tried to enter the Assembly the police used batons to stop them, in which at least 30 of them were injured.
President of state BJP unit Nilmani Deb said their agitation was a part of a nationwide protest against the price hike of essentials.
