Kohima, Jun 10 (UNI) Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretary N Benjamin Newmai today issued notification for the Rajya Sabha lone seat of the state on June 26.
In the notification, the Secretary, who is also the Returning Officer for the election, stated that the Election Commission (EC) had notified the poll for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland and accordingly, the last date of submission of nomination papers was June 16.
The scrutiny will be done on June 17 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is June 19.
The notification further said if necessary, the election would be conducted on June 26.
The election to the Rajya Sabha seat was necessitated following the resignation of sitting Member T R Zeliang, who was elected to the Nagaland Assembly and appointed state Minister of Planning and Coordination, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Parliamentary Affairs.
The ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) has yet to announce its candidate, while the Congress Legislature Party was expected not to field any candidate.
The Congress has 23 Members in the 60-Member House.
