Delhi Cabinet grants minority status to Jain Community

New Delhi, June 10 (UNI) The Delhi Cabinet today approved granting of minority status to Jain community in the Capital city.

At a meeting, presided over by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the Cabinet also approved registration of E-Governance Society of Government of Delhi.

Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet Meeting, Ms Dikshit said the Jain community in Delhi has been given minority status.

She said granting of minority status to the community paved way for fulfilling a long-standing demand of the Jain community which would benefit the community.

The community has already been granted minority status in several states. This would help the community to effectively manage their educational institutions as per parameters specified for such institutions.

Ms Dikshit said the Cabinet has given its nod for registration of E-governance Society of the Delhi Government, which would facilitate implementation of e-governance road map for providing services to citizens and business as to ensure transparency and efficiency in operation.

The roadmap includes IT infrastructure, IT architecture, application architecture, networking and communication architecture.

Ms Dikshit said the new Society would also facilitate convergence of different websites of the city-government and local bodies to enable citizens to have a single access on their computers.

This would accelerate pace of making Delhi a cyber-state in the next few years. The Society would take all necessary steps to promote efficiency, reduce delays, enhance accountability, transparency and objectivity in the functioning of the government.

It would also coordinate in formulating and implementation of policies, procedures, guidelines and e-governance through various government departments, agencies for improvement of citizens' services.

It would overall strive to promote and disseminate information technology culture in the state so that the common man could avail the benefit of information technology and e-governance.
