Chennai, Jun 10 (UNI) Leaders of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to take up with the Centre, the price rise issue, which has become a matter of concern for all sections of the society.
CPI(M) state unit secretary N Varadarajan, Rajya Sabha member T K Rangarajan and Legislator K Balabarathy called on Mr Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence and discussed about the price rise issue and the recent hike in fuel prices.
Talking to newspersons, Mr Varadarajan said they wanted the Chief Minister to prevail upon the Centre to consider the alternative measures putforth by the Left parties to avoid hike in fuel prices.
''We wanted the Chief Minister to strongly recommend the Centre to consider the alternative proposals given by the Left parties to check the fuel prices and prices of other essentials'', he said.
If the Centre implemented the alternative measures given by the Left parties the price rise could be contained, Mr Varadarajan said.
There was an urgent need to contain the rise in prices of not only essentials, but all commodities in order to bring down the anger of the people, he said.
