CPI(M) condemns caning of medicos
Chennai, Jun 10 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today condemned the police lathi charge on medicos, who had turned up for counselling seeking admission to Post Graduate courses here yesterday.
CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan, in a statement here, said the state executive, which met yesterday and today, adopted a resolution to this effect.
He said the problem arose when the doctors demanded that the Government should call both service and non-service doctors for the counselling. Instead of resolving the issue by holding talks, the police had used force, injuring 20 doctors, including 13 women.
Condemning the lathi charge, he demanded that the Government take immediate action against the police personnels responsible for the incident.
In another resolution, the party urged the Centre to find an amicable solution to the contract workers' problem in the public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). The workers have launched a strike, pressing a nine-point charter of demands, and the Centre should find a lasting solution.
