Alert trackman averts train mishap in TN
Karur, Tamil Nadu, Jun 10 (UNI) Alertness on the part of a trackman, a major train disaster was averted between Karur and Tiruchirapalli section yesterday.
Railway police sources said, Palanisamy, manning the level crossing gate at Sanapiratti village near here, after noticing that a snapped high tension overhead power line had fallen on the track near the gate immediately informed the Karur Railway station.
However, before the alert came, the Karur-Tiruchirapalli passenger had left Karur at 1515 hrs. The engine driver, who noticed the trackman waving a red flag and running towards the approaching train stopped 400 metres away from where the power line fell.
On information, officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) rushed to the spot and removed the snapped line. The train left for Tiruchirapalli, after a detention of about an hour, police said.
