9 bombers arrested; 400 kg explosive recovered in Islamabad
Islamabad, Jun 10 (UNI) Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Interior Affairs, Rehman Malik has said nine suicide bombers were arrested and three vehicles, with large quantity of explosives, seized here last week.
The Dawn newspaper today quoted him as saying that two vehicles carrying 400 kg of explosives each were seized in Rawalpindi, three days after car bomb attack outside the Danish embassy, which killed six people.
The vehicle used in the Danish embassy attack was carrying 20 kg of explosives, he said adding that an entire sector of the capital could have been destroyed had the terrorists succeeded in their mission.
During interrogation, the terrorists disclosed that they were ready to explode the ammunition within an hour or so, Mr Malik said.
Without naming any country, he said there was a foreign element behind the terrorist activities in Pakistan. Terrorism was a threat to the country and concerted efforts were required to combat it, Mr Malik said.
