415 candidates to contest SMKMC election
Sangli, Maharashtra, Jun 10 (UNI) As many as 415 candidates are in the fray for Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKMC) elections, scheduled to be held on June 22.
A total of 624 candidates had filed their nomination papers for 74 seats out of which, 209 withdrew their nominations till last date of withdrawal that ended yesterday, SMKMC sources said today.
Around 100 rebel candidates filed their nomination as independents as they were not given tickets from their respective parties.
The Congress party will go it alone in the election as its ruling alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has forged an alliance with political parties including Janata Dal, Republican Party of India (RPI), Peasants and Workers Party and others.
Jansurajya Party, led by Maharashtra non-conventional Energy Minister Vijay Kore, and Shiv Sena are also in the fray.
