As per the project, the coal-based thermal unit will be set up in Jawaharpur village here with the assistance of a Canadian and Chinese firm sources said here today.

China National Electrical Equipment Corporation (CNEE) would establish the unit while Canadian company Canasia would look after its operations.

In 1996, both the Central and the State governments had agreed upon the agreement with the Canadian company.

Last year, the UP government reopened the files and gave it a green signal. This time, the State Government has hiked the power plant capacity to 1,320 MW against the earlier 800 MW capacity.

According to the agreement, UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) would get power in the first 30 years of the unit's production, the sources added.
