Prized fugitive dacoit arrested after encounter

Yamunanagar, Jun 9 (UNI) Police here arrested Manjesh, the most wanted fugitive of the district, with a prize of Rs 25,000 on his head, after a brief encounter yesterday.

Manjesh, along with his associate Devinder alias Babloo, was today remanded in the police custody till June 13 by a lower court.

According to police, Manjesh was arrested on January 26 this year in the case of looting of a plywood merchant of Rs 34 lakh on Jan 12-13 night and the money was recovered from him.

However, he managed to escape from police custody on January 30, following which the police put a Rs 25,000 prize on him and a special investigation team was set up to nab him by IG Ambala K K Sindhu.

The team, led by senior police officer Yashwant Singh, yesterday reached Yamunanagar on a tip-off that Manjesh was present here.

Police party riding two vehicles in plainclothes, zeroed in on Manjesh and Babloo near Sarojini colony area.

The two criminals, who were on bikes attempted to flee and opened fire at the police, which also retaliated.

The duo lost control of the bike which fell. After a brief chase, police nabbed both Manjesh and Devender and recovered two .315 bore pistols from them.
