New township for JLPP
Jayankondam, Tamil Nadu, Jun 9 (UNI) A new township like the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) will come up here, Union Communications and Information Techonology Minister A Raja said.
The foundation stone for setting up the new township for the Jayankondam Lignite Power Project (JLPP), to be executed by the NLC and the Tamil Nadu government, would be laid next year, Mr Raja said while inaugurating the 1,547th branch of the Indian Bank here yesterday.
The implementation of the JLPP would usher in economic transformation in Jayankondam and Andimadam areas where a majority of population comprising poor farmers and weavers resided.
The opening of the Indian Bank branch would help to further develop the backward town, he said, adding that the progress of the JLPP would be reviewed in Chennai next week.
Reiterating that the government would accept to pay the compensation decided upon by the courts formed specifically to consider the representation of affected people following land acquisition, he said the NLC and the state government would construct new houses and provide suitable jobs to those, who gave away their dwellings for setting up the proposed JLPP.
