Judoka Mukesh dies in road accident

Hisar Jun 9 (UNI) International judoka Mukesh was killed in a road accident when a jeep hit his mobike near Dabra Chowk here yesterday.

He was rushed to a private hospital in a serious condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mukesh, who was working with Haryana police and posted at Madhuban, Karnal, was cremated at his village Mali in district Jind with full police honours in presence of a number of sportpersons, police officials, fans and his kin.

His coach and now Deputy Director Sports Sumer Singh Nandal, said he was shocked at Mukesh's sudden demise. ''We have lost a very promising player of Judo,'' he lamented.

Mukesh had represented the country in South Asian Judo championship and was member of Indian squad in the international events held atItaly and France.

Mukesh was gold medallist in the Inter University judo championship twice and bagged four national medals between 1995 to 2000.

Police have arrested the jeep driver involved in the accident.
