Haryana institutes awards to promote culture and literature

Karnal, Jun 9 (UNI) The Haryana government has instituted two new awards, ''Haryana Sahitya Rattan Puraskar'' and ''Haryana Gaurav'' to further promote rich culture and literature of the state.

This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while speaking at third annual function organised by Haryana Fine Arts Institute here today.

At the function, the Chief Minister conferred Karambhoomi Samman, Karamyogi Samman and Pandit Jasraj Samman upon 21 persons for their outstanding contribution in the field of art, culture, folk music, classical music, environment conservation, media and tourism.

Mr Hooda said that while Haryana Sahitya Ratan Puraskar carried a cash reward of Rs two lakh, the Haryana Gaurav Pursakar would have Rs 51,000. The award money of Babu Balmukand Award has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000.

Similarly, the award money of Poet Lakhmi Chand Award has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh and that of great Poet Surdas Award has also been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh.

Mr Hooda conferred Karambhoomi Samman upon famous artist Bhoop Singh Gulia. While Mr Daya Ram was honoured for his contribution in the field of handicraft, the others who were honoured included Haryanvi folk artiste, Mr Ishwar Sharma, journalist, Mr K B Pandit, Mr Naresh Malhotra for classical music, magician S K Sharma, Deputy Director of Sri Krishan Museum, Rajesh Purohit and Mr Sultan Singh for his outstanding performance in fisheries.

He also honoured noted stage artist Sumer Sharma and an actor, Yash Pal Sharma. Each of them was presented with Rs 11,000 in cash, a shawl and a certificate of appreciation.

The Chief Minister conferred Pt Jasraj Samman upon Mr Prahlad Kakkar for his significant role in the field of advertising. He had brought laurels to the state in the field of films and TV and is known as an advertisement Guru. He was presented with Rs one lakh in cash, a shawl and a certificate of appreciation.
