16 killed, 41 injured in accident
Kolhapur, Jun 9 (UNI) At least 16 people were killed and 41 injured when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus collided with a car, near Karanjoshi village on the Kolhapur-Ratnagiri National highway, about 50 km from here, today.
The bus was on its way to Malkapur from Kolhapur, while the Tata Sumo car, carrying 12 people, was heading towards Ganpati Pule near Ratnagiri, when the accident occurred this afternoon.
Due to the collision, the bus plunged 25 feet down into a nullah.
Of the deceased, 12 people have been identified so far.
All the people, who died in the accident, were travelling in the bus.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals, police said.
Among the dead, four were women, 11 men and one child, police said.
An ex-gratia payment of Rs 5000 will be given to the families of the deceased and Rs 500 to the injured, a MSRTC official said.
