Hubli, June 8 (UNI) Karnataka Assembly Speaker Jagdish Shettar today said steps would be taken to commence work on the 'Suvarna Vidhana Soudha' at Belgaum soon.
The previous JD(S)-BJP coalition Government had decided to build a Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, in Belgaum to hold the joint session of the State Legislature once a year. Setting in motion the initiative, aimed at removing disparities in the socially and economically backward regions, the then Kumaraswamy Government had made budgetary allocation (in 2007-08) of Rs 250 crore for the project.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Shettar said his priority would be development of the North Karnataka region. He was in touch with the people of the region and would cooperate fully in the development works.
A meeting of officials and municipal councillors had been convened here on June ten to discuss, among other things, basic amenities such as drinking water and other development works, he added.
To a question, the Speaker said 90 MLAs were fresh faces and they would be provided with a two-day training on their duties.
