Talking to mediapersons here this evening, Singh, who was the physical trainer of the 1973 World Cup Hockey team, said,''Physical fitness is the base of every training and each player, whether he is a goalkeeper or playing at fullback or forward positions, needs different physical fitness.'' It is the physical trainer, who would remove the weaknesses of the players and increase their endurance, speed and strength, he said adding that emphasis would be laid to improve the fitness with proper scientific approach.

He said he had proposes to the Sports Department to identify pockets, communities or areas in the state from where players with natural talents could be identified for different sports as per their inherent qualities with particular physical fitness.

He said he would also try to educate coaches and physical instructors in Punjab schools, to compile fitness data of all the students and players so that they could be moulded for different games with further physical training.
