Vienna, Jun 8 (UNI) India's Jeev Milkha Singh produced a magnificent performance and parred all 18 holes of his final round today to win the Austrian Open by a stroke.

After the weather shortened the event, Jeev emerged one stroke better than Britain's Simon Wakefield with a closing 71 to total 15-under 198 in the three rounds.

Jeev claimed his third European Tour title in Nick Faldo fashion, copying the six-times major champion's feat of 1987 when Faldo won the British Open at Muirfield by parring all 18 holes of the final round.

Wakefield, Jeev's nearest challenger overnight, began the final round four off the lead in the tournament reduced to 54 holes because of Thursday's washout.

Jeev was put under pressure by the Wakefield as the Englishman birdied three of the last four holes but eventually came up a stroke shy of forcing a playoff.

Earlier, Jeev's memories of the Ballantines Championship were brought alive by Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell, who defeated the Indian in a playoff in March.

But after closing to within two strokes of Jeev, McDowell bogeyed the last two holes to slip out of the winning picture on 11-under.

Dane Soren Hansen also got to within two strokes of Jeev but double-bogeyed the last to also drift to 11-under.

Swedes Michael Jonzon, Martin Erlandsson and Pelle Edberg and another Briton, Iain Pyman, were the ones to take the third place, three shots adrift of Jeev.
