Ifrastructure for CYG will be ready by August: Kalmadi

By Staff

Pune, June 8 (UNI) Keeping all doubts and apprehensions at rest, 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) organising committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi (MP) today said the infrastructure for the third edition of the CYG will be completed by the end of August.

Mr Kalmadi, addressing a press conference here, denied any sort of delay and at the same time assured that all the nine stadias and other related infra-structure will be ready by the end of August.

He, however, said the first deadline of May 31, could not be met due to various reasons beyond their control.

Mr Kalmadi, who is also heading the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) Ad-Hoc-Committee, said, ''A new synthetic surface pitch for hockey will be laid at the sports complex soon, for conducting the Senior National Hockey Championship in Pune. Though, Karnataka is the other bidder for hosting the championship.'' Besides a new synthetic track is being laid at the sports complex at Balewadi, in addition to the one already being in use at the Baburao Sanas Sports Complex in the heart of the city, for promotion of athletics, known as the mother of sports, he said.
