Colachel port: TN seeks Centre's nod
Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, June 8 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has sought the Centre's approval for starting work on the Colachel commercial port in this district.
Steps were being taken through the Kanniyakumari district administration to acquire 1,000 acres of land for setting up the port, State Highways and Ports Minister Vellakoil M P Saminathan told reporters here today.
Besides, a ship wrecking yard at Cuddalore at a cost of Rs 100 crore, to be built by a Korean company, and a harbour at Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district to handle coal were proposed.
Land identification process for the two projects would start soon, he said.
The Minister said a new ship, 'M S Guhan', was bought at a cost of Rs 1.6 crore for ferrying tourists to Vivekananda rock memorial and Thiruvalluvar statue at Cape Comorin.
'M S Guhan' was flagged off today by Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan.
