Ludhiana, Jun 8 (UNI) The Punjab BJP today appealed to the state Government to give relief to the public from the recent hike in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG.

The appeal was made following a meeting of the party's state executive here.

Addressing mediapersons after the meeting, state BJP chief Rajinder Bhandari and Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia said the appeal was made following suggestions by party president.

Rajnath Singh to BJP-ruled states to cut sales tax on diesel, petrol and LPG so as to provide relief to the public from the hike.

The meeting however criticised the Prime Minister's statement asking the states to give relief to the public from the hike.

The executive also analysed the party's performance in the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls fought in alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) held last month and expressed satisfaction. Prof Bhandari claimed that the party had won 18 of the 53 Zila Parishad seats and had emerged victorious on 208 seats of the 380 seats in the Samiti polls.

The executive asked its party leaders to mobilise workers for the Municipal Committee elections to be held on June 30. The BJP is fighting the polls in alliance with the SAD.
