Bangkok, Jun 8 (UNI) Mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan today came out in support of the United Nations Environment Programe (UNEP) to light the homes of nearly 1.6 billion people across the globe without electricity.
Talking to newspersons here, the legendary actor said his son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai would join him in extending support to the noble cause.
''I will await the directions of the UNEP regarding our contribution,'' he added.
Amitabh said he drew inspiration from the speech of Dr R K Pachauri, TERI, Director General and Nobel peace winner for his contributions to the UN global climate change campaign, which referred to the pathetic condition of the poor of the world.
Big B said IIFA had decided to support the greens and it laid down green carpets aganist the traditional red carpet during the IIFA events here to promote environmental cause.
On the tree planting campaign of the UN for planting a billion saplings, he said 1.6 billion saplings had already been planted and the target has now been enhanced to six billion.
