Showers bring respite in Jammu
Jammu, Jun 7 (UNI) Slight showers today brought down the soaring mercury level in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Though the city of temples was reeling under heat wave condition and humidity for over two weeks but evening showers brought back the smiles on the faces of the people.
Rising temperature was not ready to come down as it kept fluctuating from 38 degrees Celsius to 41 degrees Celsius for the last fifteen days, but slight showers with cool breeze brought some relief.
''It remained humid throughout the day as there was no respite from heat wave but the evening showers has declined the soaring mercury and the maximum temperature today was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius,'' Met official said.
However, official sources further informed that tourists destinations, including Patnitop, Kud, Batote were experiencing huge rush of visitors, especially the locals, who have reached there to enjoy the weekends.
Moreover, families accompanied with children have also rushed to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine situated in Katra town of Reasi district, an official of Shrine Board told UNI.
''With the ongoing summer holidays throughout the country, huge rush of pilgrims are visiting the Shrine with 35,000 to 40,000 average pilgrims visiting daily,'' he added.
