Naxals shot dead BJD leader

Jeypore, Jun 7: Local Biju Janata Dal (BJD)leader Jana Bidika was shot dead by armed Naxalites in Sana Sarpali village under Bandhugaon police station late last night, police said here today.

The incident took place about 120 km from distict headquarters of Koraput when ten armed naxalites arrived at the village and went to the house of Jana Bidika at about 2200 hours and called out his name.

As soon as the BJD leader came out of his house, the naxalites opened fire killing him on the spot.

Police suspect that some local naxalite leaders were involved in the killing of the ruling BJD leader of the area.

Soon after the incident, the police intensified the combing operation to nab the left wing ultras involved in the incident.

Senior police officials have rushed to the spot.

Jana Bidika was the fourth political leader in the region to be killed by the naxalites during the last few months.
