Hooda expresses gratitude to PM for IIM

Hisar, Jun 7 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for sanctioning an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Haryana.

The Chief Minister was addressing the gathering here after honouring the topper students of Pai Scholastics Institute who had shown good performance in the IIT and AIEEE examination held recently.

Mr Hooda said the Haryana Government had given impetus to technical education in the state by increasing the seats of Technical Institutes from 23000 to 53000 in the last three years.

The state would further be increased to one lakh in the next two years.

Haryana was the first state in the country to implement semester system in the schools. Similarly, Asia's largest EDUSAT system had also been implemented in 11000 schools and colleges of the state.

The Chief Minister said teachers were being recruited to give fillip to the education in the state and 33 per cent seats would be reserved exclusively for women. Chhotu Ram Engineering College, Murthal had been given the status of Science and Technology University and the first Women University of its kind in Northern India had been set up at Khanpur Kalan, he added.

He further stated that Pandit BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Research and Medical Sciences, Rohtak was also being upgraded to the level of a Medical University.

Mr Hooda said the Defence University which had been sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence would be set up in Southern Haryana. He thanked UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Defence Minister A K Antony for sanctioning the University.

He said the Rajiv Gandhi Education City was being set up at Murthal in which 25 per cent seats would be reserved for the students belonging to Haryana.

With a view to check the school drop out rate of students of Scheduled Caste families, Chief Minister Scholarship scheme had been launched under which an amount ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 400 would be given per month to the students.
