Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Jun 7 (UNI) An Investigation into the disappearance of a three-month old child at the Government hospital here, led to the unearthing of child trafficking, involving a private hospital in the district.
Sneha (24), hailing from Karumbur, near Punruti lost her three-month-old son Ramanan, when she was admitted along with the child at the Cuddalore Government hospital on May five.
Investigation by the police revealed that Indirani, a sweeper, working in the government hospital, had stolen the child and sold it to a private hospital for Rs 5,000.
Enquiries with the private hospital revealed that it was engaged in ''buying and selling'' of children and sold Ramanan to a local traffic constable, police said.
The traffic constable Kannabiran, who was summoned for an enquiry, gave a slip to the police and is absconding, police said adding a special team has been formed to arrest him.
After tracing the missing child, action would be taken against the private hospital and the sweeper in the government hospital, police said.
