YSR lays foundation stone for irrigation project

Avanigadda, Andhra Pradesh, Jun 6 (UNI) Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today laid the foundation stone for modernisation of the Krishna Delta at Puligadda in Krishna District.

The project would be completed in a period of four years at a total outlay of Rs 4,573 crore.

After clearing 12 out of 21 packages, the state government has finalised an action plan to start work.

The other ten packages for drainage works would taken up later at a cost of Rs 1,057 crore, Irrigation Department sources said.

The sources said to facilitate execution of the work, crop holiday would be declared for the second crop in the delta during third and fourth year of the implementation but only with the consent of the farmers.

Once modernised, the canal and drainage system would be able to stabilise the existing ayacut of 13.08 lakh acre in the Krishna Delta, including lands in the tail-end areas, the sources added.
