Tribal Sangha 'dharna'
Guwahati, June 6 (UNI) The All Assam Tribal Sangha today staged 'dharna' pressing its 25-point charter of demands.
They also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The demands include conversion of forest village into revenue village and restoration of tribal belts and blocks. On the reservation policy, they wanted special recruitment drive to fill up all the ST backlog posts and proper implementation of the Assam SC and ST Act, 1978.
They also demanded that no further schedule be given to any new communities in Assam. According to them, it could jeopardise the constitutional rights and privileges enjoyed by the genuine ST people.
They further demanded that scholarship be released on time to the ST students. The 'dharna' was led by Dr Bapu Basumatary, president and Mr Bhola Doley General Secretary of the Tribal Sangha.
