Lucknow, June 6 (UNI) Blaming both the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government for the rise in prices of petroleum products, Samajwadi Party today demanded immediate reduction of sales tax on petroleum products in the state.
''When other states have reduced the sales tax by 2 to 5 per cent then why UP was still charging 21 to 30 per cent on the petroleum products,'' said SP state working president Shivpal Singh Yadav.
Addressing a press conference, Mr Yadav said ignorance shown by the BSP government to reduce the sales tax on petroleum products proved that they did not care for the masses.
Talking about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, Mr Yadav said people were agitating against the wrong administrative decision of the government by shifting the Khaga tehsil from Fatehpur to Kaushambi district and reverting back Soro as tehsil in Etah district.
''There is undeclared curfew in Soron for the last eight days while people in Khaga have blocked road and rail traffic in protest,'' he said.
The SP leader said the state government has failed to solve the woes of the people.
