Kapurthala, June 4 (UNI) The recently concluded Panchayat elections claimed the life of a child and led to injuries to four other family members when they were attacked with bricks by a rival candidate and his supporters in their house at village Khalu in the district last night, police today stated.
Simran, a one and half year old girl was killed when a brick hit her while she was asleep in the courtyard of the house. The injured included Mohan, the father of the deceased girl and his three sons Raju, Nirmal and Santokh. The injured have been admitted in the local civil hsopital and are stated to be out of danger.
According to police, Mohan had been elected as panch in the recently concluded panchayat elections. Sema who was defeated in the elections decided to take revenge and alongwith his supporters he indulged in brick batting at the house of his rival.
The attackers first hurled abuses and then attacked the house with bricks resulting in the death of child and injures to other members of the family.
However, Amandeep another brother had a providential escape in the attack.
Police has registered a case of murder under section 302, 323, 452,148 and 149 IPC against fifteen persons and arrested two of them idetified as Kashmira and Balwinder Singh.
