Bangalore, June 6 (UNI) The Janata Dal(S) in Karnataka today urged the State Government to take immediate steps to ensure adequate supply of fertilisers to farmers.
Speaking to newsperson here today Senior JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy critisised the BJP government for its failure in handling the volatile situation arisen following shortage of chemical fertiliser supply for which farmers were up in the arms against the State Government.
Charging that Mr Yeddyurappa who had taken oath as Chief Minister of the state in the name of Farmers doing nothing except writing letter to Prime Minister for the release of fertilisers.
Mr Kumaraswamy urged Mr Yeddyurappa to depute a Minister to New Delhi and impress the Union Government about urgent need of the fertilisers following early set of monsoon and agriculture operations have already began following widespread rainfall.
Referring to police recent excesses on the agitating farmers demanding adequate supply of fertilisers, Mr Kumaraswamy criticised that 'Lathicharge on the hapless farmers was the gift from Mr Yeddyurappa after assuming office of the Chief Minister," he said.
Blaming that some section of media have indulged in propagating false reports that his party legislators were contemplating to switch over to ruling BJP, Mr Kumaraswamy appealed them not to resort to divide the party. "Party legislators can not be bought over for money or fall prey to any other allurements" he said.
Replying to questions, Mr Kumaraswamy said that JD(S) was not in favour of bringing down the BJP government which had assumed office only last week. "Let us give some time for them function" he added.
