{image-Rajnath singh_06062008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Indore, June 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh today said that the price rise plagued the economy on account of the Centre's erroneous economic policies.

"The Congress is synonymous with price hike as inflation has scaled a record high during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime's tenure and will soon reach the two-digit figure," he told reporters. Mr Singh was here to take part in the valedictory session of the BJP Mahila Morcha's National Executive. Regarding the expectation from states to curtail taxes in the wake of the recent fuel prices hike, he pointed out that 50 per cent of tax revenue from fuel was sent to the Centre and urged the latter to reduce taxes. ''The BJP has asked its governments to reduce taxes. The Left parties are shedding crocodile tears over the price rise. I challenge them to withdraw support from the UPA that has failed to tackle terrorism,'' Mr Singh said.

Before stressing on a federal intelligence agency, like the Prime Minister is doing, a federal law should be drafted, the BJP leader said while adding that the Congress had repealed the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the Centre was not approving strict anti-terror bills drafted by states. ''The Centre is discriminating against BJP-ruled states. It did not provide any drought relief to Madhya Pradesh and slashed the power quota,'' Mr Singh added.
