Mumbai, Jun 6 (UNI) City Congress unit today condemned the attack on the residence of Marathi daily Loksatta's editor Kumar Ketkar.
The attack on Ketkar's residence is an attack on the freedom of press and this kind of attacks should not be tolerated, a Mumbai Congress release issued here said.
Mumbai Congress also demanded that Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil should take quick action against the culprits. ''This is a murder of democracy,'' they said.
President of Mumbai Congress R R Singh said protection should be provided to Kumar Ketkar and his family. Precaution should be taken, so that such incidents do not occur in future, he said.
Krishna Hegde, spokesperson of the Mumbai Congress, while criticising the attack on Ketkar's house also said that the monument of Chattrapati Shivaji, which the Maharastra Government has decided to erect, is a question of national pride and requested the government to implement the decision at the earliest.
A mob of around 70 persons had yesterday, attacked Kumar Ketkar's residence in Thane, near here, to stage their protest against an editorial in which the need for installation of Shivaji's statue in Mumbai had been criticised.
