BJP Govt to give priority to irrigation, infrastructure
Bangalore, Jun 6 (UNI) B S Yeddyurappa-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka will accord top priority for irrigation, infrastracture development, generation of additional power and protection of people belonging to all sections of the society.
Addressing the joint session of the State Legislature, Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said providing basic needs, including Food, Health, Education, Housing and Social Justice, were top in the agenda of the new government.
The Governor, unmindful of JD(S) Legislators trooping into the well of the House, alleging failure of the government to implement Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Sugarcane farmers, said to facilitate fulfilment of the basic needs, the government would redefine poverty by recognising families as 'Extremely Poor' and 'Poor'.
The new government was committed to allround development of the state and to achieve it, programmes will be formulated to improve the lot of the farmers, farm labourers and other sections of the society.
Stressing the importance of infrastructural development, Mr Thakur said the government will take necessary measures to double the power production to 10,000 MW during the next five years.
It will be realised by encouraging private sector participation and seeking Centre's investment in power generation, he underlined.
