Bangalore, Jun 6 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which made inroads in South India by capturing power in Karnataka, will accord top priority for Irrigation, infrastracture development, generation of additional power and protection of people belonging to all sections of the Society.
Addressing the joint session of the State Legislature, Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said that providing basic needs including Food, Health, Education, Housing and Social Justice are top in the agenda of the new government.
Governor, who unmindful of JD(S) Legislators trooping into the well of the House alleging failure of the Government to implement Minimum Support Price for Sugarcane farmers, said that to facilitate fulfilment of the basic needs the Government will redefine poverty by recognizing the families as 'Extremely poor' and 'Poor'.
Stating that the new government was committed for all-round development of the state and to achieve its goal programmes will be formulated to improve the lot of the farmers, farm labourers and other sections of the society.
Stressing the importance of the infrastructure development, the new government will take all necessary measures to double the power production to 10,000 MW during the next five years. It will be realised by encouraging private sector participation and also seeking Centre's investment in the power generation.
