Lucknow, June 6 (UNI) Former Vice-President and senior BJP leader Bhairon Singh Shekhwat today suggested that all the state governments and the political parties should sit together to find out lasting solution to the reservation problem.
''They should evolve some constitutional way to deal with the situation where individual castes raise the demand for reservation,'' he told reporters here.
Reluctant to answer any political questions, Mr Shekhawat said the reservation issue should be dealt with by concerted efforts of the political parties rising above party lines.
The veteran BJP leader, hails from Rajasthan which is witness to a volatile agitation of Gujjars demanding Sheduled Tribe (ST) status, said he would not like to comment on the issue as both the parties ( Rajasthan government and Gujjars) were holding dialogue.
He, however, expressed concern over the rising inflation and hoped it was checked in the larger interest of the public.
Mr Shekhawat was here on a personal visit.
Former Utttaranchal Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari was also with him to visit the residence of senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon here this evening.
