446 contract doctors sacked
Ranchi, Jun 6 (UNI) The Jharkhand government has so far sacked 446 contract doctors, who were on agitation for the past ten days in support of their various demands.
The government set deadline till June 4 for the total 712 agitating doctors either to resume duty or get sacked but only 266 of them gave in to Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi's pressure.
Despite the sacking, about 500 doctors from across the state gathered at the state capital here and marched to the Raj Bhavan before handing over a memorandum to Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, explaining their position.
The contractual doctors had been demanding regularisation of their jobs, Top Health department officials said the doctors were instructed to resume duty as their demands were not justified.
Contract Doctors' Association president Vimlesh Singh told UNI that they would seek legal option in this regard.
Mr Singh said they would hold a meeting with various organiSations, including Indian Medical Association and Jharkhand Service Association and also gherao the Chief Minister's residence on June 10.
