Prasar Bharti gearing up to strengthen news gathering in J

Srinagar, Jun 5 (UNI) The Prasar Bharti is gearing up to strengthen its news gathering mechanism in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Assembly elections, scheduled later this year.

A spokesman of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said here today said that News Services Division of the All India Radio is organising a three-day workshop here from tomorrow for reporters working in the length and breadth of the border state.

Special focus will be on reporting of development news to make it more listener-friendly and train the reporters with the use of the latest equipment in a bid to bring news nearer to the people.

He said the workshop was being attended by 22 Part Time Correspondents, apart from the News Heads, News Editors and Correspondents of regional stations of Jammu, Srinagar and Leh.

The workshop, the first of its kind in Srinagar, would be addressed among others by the Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz and Director General, News, and noted broadcast journalist, P K Bandopaydaya.

Experts from Print and Electronic Media will share their experiences with the participants and a road map would be prepared for the micro level coverage of the forthcoming Assembly elections and other important news events, he added.

Vice Chancellor of the Kashmir University and expert on Kashmir Affairs, Riyaz Punjabi, several state Ministers and Heads of Radio and Doordarshan Srinagar would also address the workshop.

Additional Director General (News), AIR, Sadhana Rout would give the background of the workshop which is the 17th in a row. Sixteen such workshops had so far been conducted in different parts of the country.
