Washington, June 5 : The US is learnt to have urged upon the Pakistan government not to complicate the domestic political situation and instead focus on fighting extremists.
If diplomatic sources in Washington are to be believed, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also raised the issue with ambassador-designate Hussain Huqqani at a meeting at her office on Tuesday, reported the Dawn.
The ambassador has already had a series of meetings with key US officials since his arrival in Washington a week ago. He had his first such meeting with Commander US Central Command General David Petraeus on Thursday and on Friday he met Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte.
Over the past one month, Pakistan has been facing a very volatile political situation, especially after the PML-N decided to pull itself out of the PPP-led government, but continued to support the federal government.
The issues like restoration of judges and President Pervez Musharraf's impeachment have been the bones of contention between the two largest parties, viz the PPP and the PML-N.
