Lucknow, June 5 (UNI) Oils and Natural Gas Corporation and Air India entered the semi-finals of the 56th Sahara City Home Sheesh Mahal Cricket tournament.
ONGC won all the three league encounters in pool A and reamined on the top with 13 points to their credit, however, despite Uttar Pradesh Cricket Asssociation (UPCA) winning the last league match, failed to qualify for the semi-final on the basis of points tally, the other team of the same pool Karachi Jeelani Tigers (KJT), Pakistan was also eliminated from the tournament.
At the end of the league matches of the pool A the teams poisitions were ONGC (13), Air India (05), KJT (04) and UPCA (04).
In the league matches played today ONGC beat KJT by 39 runs at the K D Singh Babu stadium while at the Chowk stadium UPCA won against Air India by 3 wickets.
After winning the toss, ONGC skipper Rizwan Shamshad elected to bat first and played a captain's knock of 59 runs and he along with Mayank Tehlan (34) produced 99 runs partnership for the the third wicket. The other contributors were Sandeep (33), Mohd Saif (30). Rashid, Azam Hussain and Haris Ayaz chipped in with one wicket each for the KJT, Pakistan.
In reply Pakistani lose thier three wickets cheaply with only 30-runs on the board. However, Afsar Nawaz and Fahdullahd Khan studied the innings and they scored 87 and 36 runs respectively.
As many as eight batsmen of KJT were failed to reach the double figure mark, the wrecker in chief was Vikramjeet Malik who with his medium pace captured 5 wickets.
