Thane, June 5: A group of people calling themselves as workers of Shiv Sangram attacked the Kopri residence of Kumar Ketkar, editor of leading Marathi daily Loksatta, on Thursday morning.

The attack took place in protest against the stand taken by him in his editorial on Wednesday against the Maharashtra government's move to install a statue of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji in Arabian Sea off Marine Drive in south Mumbai. Eearly 60 to 70 workers of Shiv Sangram, a little-known Hindu organisation, arrived at the ground floor residence of Ketkar at around 10.30 am, smashed the window panes and smeared the place with tar. They also tried in vain to break into his place. Apart from the stand taken by Ketkar, the agitators were also protesting against the "language" used in the editorial.
