Police said Vijayan (53), husband of Sudha, one of the five adopted daughters of MGR, was returning home in his car, when the assailants, following him in another car, hacked him to death. After they hit his car, Vijayan stopped and came out to see whether the vehicle was damaged in the impact. The assailants pulled out sickles and iron rod and murdered him, police said. Ms Sudha, who suspected the hands of her sister's husband in the murder, appealed to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to render justice. Their first son, who is in US, is expected to arrive here tonight and the cremation would take place tomorrow. Initial enquiries revealed that family feud was said to be the reason for the murder. The body was kept at Ramavaram gardens, where MGR lived. While Ms Sudha was insisting the body should be buried in the garden premises, other family members opposed it, sources close to them said. Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa expressed shock and grief over the murder.
In a message, she said Mr Vijayan, besides maintaining well MGR's house, was running a magazine 'Mannadhi Mannan', popularising the late leader.
Stating that the murder, again showed the lack of law and order in the state, she demanded action against the assailants and conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family.
