K'taka has released Rs 45 lakh to combat Chikungunya:Minister
Bangalore, Jun 5 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has so far released Rs 45 lakh to contain Chikungunya in Dakshina Kannada, Minister Krishna Palemar said today.
Talking to newspersons here, he said about 5,000 people were affected by the disease in three taluks of Dakshina Kannada.
The District Health department has taken precautionary steps by administering anti Chikungunya vaccine to more than 40,000 people in Bantwal, Sullia and Puttur taluks of the district and likely to spread in Mangalore city and Madikeri in Kodagu district, Mr Palemar said.
The portfolios of minister are yet to be announced.
The district administration have also sent a proposal to the state government to release Rs two crore to prevent sea erosion in Dakshina Kannada. Every year hundreds of acres of mainland was being eroded by the sea, threatening number of dwellings and other properties. ''A permanent solution against sea erosion needed to be put in place,'' he added.
