IT, BPO companies hit by cabs, private bus strike
Hyderabad, Jun 5 (UNI) Several IT and BPO companies, which provide pick up and drop facilities to their employees, were badly affected with the indefinite strike launched by the Association of Taxi Cabs and Private Operators from last night in the city.
The Association went on strike demanding the state government withdraw the Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on cabs and private bus services from this year.
The strike would continue till the government withdrew VAT, the association said.
According to estimates, there were about 20,000 cabs and buses plying on the city roads. The majority of them were hired by IT companies and call centres to pick up and drop their employees at odd hours.
In response to the indefinite strike, the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) was operating extra buses towards Madhapur, where the majority of the IT companies were located and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
